Win some, lose some. Crete, IL Chicago’s leading harness driver for the past plus years, Dave Magee, is retiring after his drives this Saturday night Feb. He won a whopping races inwhich led all drivers in North America.
He wanted to make sure his wife, Cathy, was on board with it. He led the nation in wins in withand took the World Driving Championship inracing against dsve world’s best drivers from Canada, Australia, France, Sweden, Italy and Germany.
A race he said he was fortunate to win with year-old gelding Senator Haven after being “parked” in an outside position all the way around the track, a position he does not recommend. It’s a career that has earned him acclaim on national and international stages of his sport after starting on the fair circuit in his native Wisconsin.
Magee is a Hall of Famer and has been one of the classiest individuals the sport of harness racing has ever known. In the other two races, he was fourth and ninth. I was so choked up telling my wife that she thought something bad had happened.
He is also the leader in Super Night victories among drivers.
